High-level web development frameworks such as Ruby on Rails and Django offer a compelling way to quickly create a large class of applications. We'll step through the creation of a simple web app in Django, taking a couple of diversions to look at the full feature set of Django, including the web-handling framework, the ORM/data-modeling, testing support, internationalization/localization and cache-control. Django is written in Python (no previous python experience required! :), and also runs on the JVM via jython; we'll look at accessing Java libraries from django apps. [NOTE TO ORGANIZERS: your "Technical Areas" list does not include "Python" or "Django", so I wasn't able to select the most appropriate items. (Also, it's "perl", not "Pearl". ;p)]

Technical Areas

  • Content Management
  • HTML
  • Java
